cassandra wilson..."Belly Of The Sun"

Cassandra Wilson has broken out to appeal to a broad spectrum of listeners without compromising her art. No overnight sensation, Ms Wilson perfected her style through a series of albums. Now, whether she's covering a jazz or pop standard or performing her own compositions, she owns the song.

I first became familiar with her work about 6 years ago while in a small record shop in North Carolina. I was taken by the beauty of her locks, and never imagined the joy in which the first CD of hers that I purchased that date would bring me. The CD was Blue Light 'Till Dawn.

Thirteen records later, I got to meet and work with Cassandra for the first time, as lead wardbobr stylist for her upcoming CD, "Belly Of The Sun", due out in March 2002 on Blue Note Records ~ Dammit we made sum art! and I only got frustrated when only 1 look I wanted didn't werk.

Many of the images will be forthcoming...don't wanna spoil the anticipation. We shot in the lowlands of South Carolina and on the beaches of Tybee Island where it was hot as hell. The plantations and landscapes were amazingly beautiful and eerie all at the same time.

On Monday, the images were shot by THE landscape daddy himself, Jack Spencer of Nashville and my boy Pat "Rising Damm Fast" Molnar of the A-T-L did his thang on Tuesday. Atlantan, and world renowned and very respected makeup artist Gwynnis Mosby painted the face, while Dwana Makeba beat down the hair, and yours truly along with one of Atlanta's brightest and most creative on the hush stylist, and my assistant, Terrance Shelton killed it. For those not so tragically hip, that means we rocked Baby!
