The playa
and the poet have elevated their game for the third time
with Aquemini. Musically, individually and collectively, Big
Boi and Dre come on strong and impressive with their third
and, possibly, best effort. Dre's lyrics from the title
track clearly describes the group's feelings on the music,
the look, and the entire project: "Don't get caught up in
the appearance, It's OutKast Aquemini, another black
experience".
The missive
here was one creative collaborating joy. Upon initially
meeting Dre', I realized the vision he had was clear. I had
the pleasure of translating, from concept to completion, Sun
Ra type outfits for press images, the cd single jacket, and
for the "back alley, southern blue grass, hoe down jam
session", "Rosa Parks". In addition to using the images for
the cd jacket, much to my surprise and applause, they used
them as stills in the music video.
On the
second project with OutKast, the mission was just as clear.
My mission here was as the lead wardrobe stylist for the
music video "Skew It On The Bar-B" featuring Rae kwon from
The WuTang Clan ... you know the hook, "Ol' School playas to
new school fools, Kast keep it jumpin like Kangaroo's , well
skew it on the bar-b, we ain't trying to lose, say I be got
damn it, they done changed the rules."
